Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. -Colossians 1:21

Here Paul attests to the fact that, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he (Prov. 23:7). Our thoughts drive our behavior, what we believe turns into action. Jesus said, “out of the overflow of the heart (mind) the mouth speaks” (Matt. 12:35). When we are alienated from God we overflow with ungodly thoughts and our words and deeds show it.

Whether we realize it or not, we are enemies of God by default as a result of original sin. The only way to reconcile -to become friends- is through a relationship with Jesus our Savior.

There is a condition to our reconciliation that is often overlooked: “IF you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel (Col. 1:23).” It is possible to walk away from our faith. We can “unreconcile” with Christ and lose the benefits of our union with Him.

Cultivating (establishing) our relationship with God through Christ and with a dependence on the work of the Holy Spirit must be the focus of every believer. Christ is our Solid Rock, a Firm Foundation. When we align ourselves with Him we are fused to that foundation that cannot be shaken. We are fools to ever willingly or by neglect step off hat foundation into sinking sand.

Fix your thoughts on the foundation of Jesus Christ and you will overflow with acts of righteousness, unshakeable when the tides crash against your life.
