The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. (Isaiah 9:2 NIV)
There is darkness all around us. People do really horrible things, and terrible tragedies blanket the headlines the world over. There are days when it feels overwhelming.
But a Great Light has come, and no matter how dark it appears, His light is brighter. The Light reminds us that there is hope; darkness will to remain.
In the gospel of John we read that Jesus is “the true light that gives light to everyone.” And Jesus Himself announced that He is the light of the World. He did not come only to bring light to Israel, but to all humanity.
Jesus encouraged the disciples to be children of light. What does this mean? In writing to the Thessalonian church, Paul explains that children of light are
-alert and sober
-encouraging
-appreciating
-peaceful
-helpful
-patient
-joyful
-prayerful
How do you rate yourself on these characteristics? As a new year dawns, consider how you might better reflect the Light of Jesus.
